CMSIM Information

This page is a start at a

"CMSIM for Dummies"

guide geared toward simulation of the muon system. Another place to look is the CMSIM information page at UCLA.

The simulation program for the D0 Upgrade was based on CMSIM (by Y. Fisyak, who wrote Web documentation for D0gstar). The programs are beginning to diverge now, but much information about running the programs and understanding the output is similar. For instance, here is a list of FFREAD keywords used in D0gstar and D0gen, most of which are identical or very similar to those in CMSIM. (At least for v112.)

Here is a set of partially documented control cards for running CMSIM as a batch job in UNIX. It is set up for muon analysis and presently is for version 112. It is an ongoing project: R. Breedon will be adding to it as more is understood about the control card operations. Contributions to the documentation are solicted. This is a link to CMSIM information from CERN, including html and downloadable postscript versions of the CMSIM User's Guide.

Explanation of hits Ntuple in Ntuple ID = 901 (P. Hession)
Explanation of muon track fit results in Ntuple ID = 950 (R. Breedon)
Explanation of CSC hit cluster reconstruction parameters in Ntuple ID = 400 (J. Rowe)

How to create and install a new magnetic field in CMSIM is sketched out in the comments in FIELD.KUMAC. RB plans to write more about it someday.

Here are instructions for installing CMSIM for Windows NT, (B. Greensmith) with references to SCRI's installation instructions and additions made by UC Davis.

Here is a web tutorial on HOW TO RUN CMSIM 114, 115 or 116 ON DIGITAL UNIX AT UC DAVIS, (T. Cox).
